The Supersonnerie began with the idea of using the essential parts of a repeater. Giulio Papi and Audemars Piguet Renaud et Papi were the leaders of this project. They created a sound profile of the optimum sound characteristics. École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne) provided technical assistance and microengineering expertise to the sound recordings.
